In 2018, there were 25,162 work zone traffic crashes in Texas. This is National Work Zone Awareness Week to promote safety and consideration when traveling through a work zone. According to Newswest9.com, the crashes mentioned above "resulted in 684 serious injuries and 161 fatalities. 84 percent of the latter were either motorists or their passengers.” Safety is vital to both those in the vehicle and the individuals works in the construction site.
Additionally, Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is highlighting its "Be Safe, Drive Smart”campaign through the week. Most of these crashes happening in the state are due to speeding and not paying attention, according to TxDOT. It is illegal to speed and the fines can be higher if you are caught in a work zone.
There are many projects happening through out Texas any time of the year, slow down and pay extra attention if you are traveling through one of these areas. Allow extra time if you are planning a trip out of town, it is easier to make plans ahead of time so you are not stressed while driving through an area.
