Irene Mason, a matriarch of Mason Construction, Ltd., was honored this week at the Deliver the Difference Luncheon with Nutrition & Services for Seniors. Mrs. Mason, along with three other community leaders, were honored as the "2017 Community Treasures.” They all can be looked at as community gems in the Southeast Texas area. While Mrs. Mason is not directly involved in the business now, we would not have grown to the organization we are without her help and support along with that of her late husband, Charles Edward Mason.
Soon after they were married, they came back to Beaumont to help run the family business, Mason Construction, Ltd. W.K. Mason, Charles’ father, started the business in 1939 but Charles and his brother, Kee, soon joined the company. Kee later left the business and Charles continued with a new focus of moving into equipment rentals. The third and even fourth generations have been involved in building a successful business. With new additions to the business we have grown with new ideas and inspiration, all based on the foundation laid by those such as W.K., Kee, and Charles.
As new generations came on board with the business, they have been active supporters of local community organizations such as Nutrition & Services for Seniors. The annual Deliver the Difference Luncheon supports the Meals on Wheels program conducted by Nutrition & Services for Seniors. According to their website, Nutrition & Services for Seniors is:
"is a non-profit agency dedicated to providing innovative, effective programs that assist older adults in leading quality lives while maintaining dignity and independence.”
In 1983, a group of civic-minded residents, concerned for the well being of seniors in our community, set upon a path to expand services to local seniors. By providing congregate meals, home delivered meals, transportation, nutrition education and information and referrals we give seniors the opportunity to remain independent in their own homes. We believe that Senior Dining Sites and Nutrition Programs such as ours can be much more than the first step in providing long term care for the seniors in Jefferson and Hardin counties. In addition to providing meals, a network of volunteers and staff monitor the well being of our recipients during a daily visit. That visit provides comfort and company to the seniors and peace of mind to their family and caregivers. Please help us in our efforts to aid the seniors in our community.
The Meals on Wheels program is a home delivery meal program for senior citizens in Jefferson or Hardin Counties. They bring hot meals to a variety of individuals in need, some being home bound adults with disabilities. To find out more about this program and who may qualify, visit their website at seniormeals.org.
One of our very own Mason Construction, Ltd. employees was highly involved in the planning of this year’s luncheon. Stephanie Shoemaker was a co-chair for the luncheon and will continue to service at next year’s event. Other members of the Mason family were present at the luncheon on Thursday, May 04, 2017. We are always proud to see our team support our community and engage with local organizations that are doing such great work.
